What To Do About Science Vocabulary

I recently polled some upper elementary teachers and their #1 concern for science instruction is vocabulary retention.

You’ve introduced vocabulary, taught your lessons, included time for hands-on labs, and assessed. But do your students retain that vocabulary 3 weeks later? In many cases, no. For students to master academic vocabulary, they need to be exposed to terms many times in different ways.

  1. These vocabulary activities are so helpful! Memorizing vocabulary does not always mean retaining the information, but a variety of interactions with the vocabulary allows students to better grasp what they are learning. Thank you for such a great resource.
