Hi, I'm Ari from The Science Penguin
As a new 5th grade science teacher with an outdated textbook and labs with endless supply lists and no money to purchase supplies, every day was a “make it work” moment. To reach my students with my limited resources, I created my own science materials, primarily notebook templates and station activities.
They worked!
My students enjoyed class. They learned. They did well on state testing.
I thought, “Maybe there are other teachers that would like to try some of these activities.”
And in November 2011, I started The Science Penguin blog.
Teachers loved the simple science ideas and printables I shared. After I finished my Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction, I took The Science Penguin to the next level. I created detailed activities with teacher directions and sample photographs. I learned the basics of print design, how to maintain a website, and how to create digital resources. I continued teaching and trying new ideas with real students in real classrooms with real challenges.
Today, The Science Penguin has four former teachers preparing resources and assisting teachers and districts with purchasing.
