What does this look like ?

Expect tight alignment, detailed 5E lesson plans, emphasis on Science and Engineering Practices and Recurring Themes and Concepts, and high rigor from The Science Penguin.

Here is an example:

In this 9-day mixtures unit for 5th grade:

Day 1-5 are all in the Beaches Phenomenon-based unit.

Day 1: Engage with the phenomenon video and quick lab.

Day 2: Explore with stations.

Day 3: Explain with a video clip, text, and notebook activity.

Day 4: Elaborate with a lab.

Day 5: To evaluate, write a class CER, do a multiple-choice quiz, and respond to an open response prompt.

After Day 5, we reinforce with other Science Penguin materials.

Day 6: Review the important content with slides and notes, a sort, and an exit ticket.

Day 7-8: Extend by differentiating. Meet with small groups needing intervention. Allow students to review in stations. Ask some students to work on Digital Inquiry. Review with flipbooks or notebook templates.

Day 9: Assess with our TEKS-based Assessments, Vocabulary Quizzes, and/or Short Constructed Response.
