For sedimentary rock formation, we used Whole Brain to go through the steps of sedimentary rock forming. Then, students layered sand and soil in the cup (compaction) and added water (cementation).
Test Prep: After this, we did some test prep questions to look at how it can be tested and most importantly, how to use the activities we did as an anchor for answering multiple choice questions. We are still working on using what we know to correctly answer questions. However, by the end of the lesson, students could identify the processes that led to both fossil fuels and sedimentary rocks.
Closing: Students completed the “After the Lesson” questions and wrote what they learned. We had some of the rock candies from the bulk bins at the grocery store to celebrate learning something new!
