Science in a Snap: Matter
Do you need some quick and quality science lessons that help you address the standards in a short period of time? I am really excited about this new product geared toward the primary grades! I used the 2nd grade standards from many states when creating this month-long unit, although you may find it appropriate for 1st or 3rd too. The focus is physical properties of matter and changes to matter.
Physical Properties of Matter
The first part of the pack focuses on the physical properties of matter. Brief hands-on activities engage students and let them experience the content. The physical properties included in this unit are:
- sink or float
- physical state of matter
- relative mass
Determine the physical properties of everyday objects.
Make fold-ups for the states of matter.
Compare physical properties with a performance task.
Your students will have a blast and learn a lot with these changing matter activities. What’s topics are included?
- evaporation and melting
- sanding, dissolving, folding, and tearing
- reversible and irreversible changes to due heating and cooling
Make some eggs.
Visit 4 interactive physical change stations.
Evaporate water and melt ice.
Discuss and organize new information.
