Indoor recess? Kids running amok? Need a break from testing? This is something older kids love and is super duper easy for you! All you need is a ball.
This is a simple idea, but has the most beautiful results I’ve ever seen. A person wiser than I am passed this along to me and I’m passing it along to you now: mum ball.
Students stand in a circle. They throw the ball to each other and must catch it. A designated “caller” decides whether students are out.
1. Don’t throw it the person next to you (until it’s down to about 5 people).
2. No arguing with the caller.
3. Don’t throw too hard.
4. You must try to catch the ball if it is thrown to you. (Yes, I do have to say this out loud…)
And the best one…drumroll please…
5. If you talk, you’re out.
Once the game is taught, the kiddos handle the game themselves without me interfering. I hope your students love it!
Thanks for stopping by! Next up in the blog hop is Stephanie at Fun in First for a great idea about coin counting fluency.
